momentum for gun control is coming out of the most recent massacre, the one at sandy hook elementary school in newtown, connecticut. an event that shook a normally poised president, remember this, wiped a tear away, later announced a task force to curb gun violence, to be led by vice president joe biden. one of the vice president's first moves, extending an invitation to the nra. let me take you to washington and talk to cnn political editor paul steinhauser. paul, just what is the task force hoping to get out of approaching the nra? >> i think what they want to do here is get voices and get voices of all sides in the gun argument here. that's why the nra was given an invitation. take a listen to jay carney, white house press secretary, asked about the nra attending these immediatings this wee i m. >> the vice president's group invited a number of organizations and individuals to participate in meetings. they include gun owners, and groups that represent gun owners, groups that represent sports men and sports women. the nra has been one of the groups -- one of the many groups invited. i wil
, starting with hurricane andrew, way before katrina and sandy, there was andrew back in 1992. killed 15 people, second costliest storm in u.s. history adjusted for inflation and it really did change how hurricanes were forecast and how the nation really responded. that was beyond devastating for those communities down there in florida. >> the winds were gauged at 160 miles per hour and another huge story is the riots. the rodney king riots which happened after those four officers were acquitted in the beating of rodney king. they rioted over six days in april of 1992, looting, assault, murder occurred during the riots and estimates of property damage topped $1 billion. >> and they pulled that truck driver out and beat him with a brick. that was a dark time for the country and exposed relations in america. something that these stories of 1992, also a big year politically, as well. we all remember this guy. president clinton won election that year. the guy from hope, arkansas came into the white house and obviously, changed the face of politics. i remember my parents saying for the first
